Hey everyone,
So, a spanner has come flying out of nowhere to gum up the works of 2023… but it’s a purple, sparkly spanner at least. Surrounded by rainbows! It’s a good thing, but not so much for sending Becks and the City out in July.
In the past week, I’ve received an email — one of those ones beginning with ‘Dear Rebecca’ instead of ‘Dear writer’ (in Writersville, if you receive a greeting where you’re anonymous instead of being called by name, 99% of the time it’s a rejection).
This was very much not a rejection. It was fabulous news! Back in April, I applied for a fellowship program with Penguin Random House as part of their ‘Write It’ program. This email was letting me know I’ve been shortlisted for a fellowship. (The announcement is here, in case you’re interested.)
I need to submit my manuscript (called Welfare Queens) by 24 July, so it’s time to get my skates on and throw everything I have at this opportunity. I’ve decided that means I’ll be pressing pause on Becks and the City for July to give myself more time.
I’ll be back in early August, after I’ve fallen in a heap and had a good lie down.
Cheerio for now, and see you back here (I’m hoping you’ll be back!) in a month’s time.
Stay awesome!
xx

Congrats!
Wow congrats:)
